Clinical Research in Oncology: New on ASCO University®

Dr. Daniel G. Haller
The new Clinical Research in Oncology Program offers a collection of eLearning courses from ASCO University®. Aimed at early-career oncologists and U.S.-based and international clinical researchers, the package features six eLearning courses: “Fundamentals of Clinical Trials,” “Biostatistics,” “Manuscript Preparation and Publication,” “Qualitative Research Methods,” “Evaluation of the Scientific Literature,” and “Grant Writing.”

Also included are three webinar capture courses developed by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as part of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Training and Instruction (CERTaIN) program, which is supported by a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. These webinar courses are “Observational Studies and Data Sources,” “Synthesis of Knowledge with Direct Meta-Analysis Capture,” and “Patient-Reported Outcomes in Cancer.”

All of the courses have been designed by experienced course planners and faculty involved in clinical research who share their experience and help learners develop skills such as designing research protocols and reporting and interpreting results. After completion of an eLearning course, learners are eligible to apply for continuing medical education credit and American Board of Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification points. Some courses have been approved for additional nursing and pharmacy credit as well.

Editor-in-Chief of ASCO University Daniel G. Haller, MD, FASCO, thinks the bundle is something that will offer clinical researchers and teams an opportunity to gain foundational knowledge about key elements involved in developing a successful research program.

“These courses provide practical core information and plenty of examples that participants can work through,” Dr. Haller said.

The collection is available for the list price of $280. Individual ASCO members who purchase the package will receive an additional 20% discount, and larger institutions that purchase the package through institutional access receive a discount based on the number of people enrolled. For those oncologists and researchers at institutions in low- to middle-income countries, World Bank pricing rates are available.
